A generation of distinguished artists from the community of Maningrida
This exhibition is devoted to the art and artists from the community of Maningrida.
An exhibition to showcase the rich artistic heritage of the vibrant community and surrounding areas in Western Arnhem Land, Northern Territory, Australia.
Artists such as John Mawurndjul, Jimmy Njiminjuma, Ivan Namirrkki and Mick Kubarrku – all of whom were part of a generation of cultural leaders who drew inspiration from their deep connection to the land, cultural traditions, and community narratives. This exhibition acknowledges both their legacy and the new directions that they forged in Kuninjku artistic practice that still resonates today.
The exhibition will highlight the skill and creativity of the community through a diversity of mediums including bark painting, weaving, works on paper and sculpture.
A Secondary Eye acknowledges the Traditional Owners of Country throughout Australia and recognises the continuing connection to lands, waters and communities. We pay our respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures; and to Elders past and present.
